Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old paramedic, was fatally shot by federal immigration agents during protests against immigration raids in Minneapolis. He worked for approximately five years in the intensive care unit at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center, caring for war veterans. The incident happened when Pretti tried to help a woman who was knocked down and pepper sprayed by agents. According to videos from the scene, one agent pulled Pretti's gun from his waistband just before the shooting, and Pretti never held the gun in his hand. The Department of Homeland Security says agents fired in self-defense after the gun was taken from him and he resisted violently. Minneapolis police confirmed that Pretti was a legal gun owner with no criminal record. The family said he was trying to protect the woman from being near agents. The American Nurses Association calls for a transparent investigation of the incident.[1][2][3][4][5]
