Healthgrades has published a ranking of the 50 best hospitals in the US for 2026, located in 19 states.[1][3][4] The rankings also include the top 100 and top 250 hospitals, which together make up the top 1% of hospitals in the country.[1] Approximately 4,500 hospitals were evaluated based on risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for more than 30 common conditions and procedures.[1][3][4] Data is from Medicare for the years 2021 to 2024.[2][3] Among the top 50 are, for example, Mayo Clinic Hospital in Arizona, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in California and Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.[2][4] California has 11 hospitals in the top 50, Pennsylvania 7 and Florida 5.[4] If all hospitals achieved the performance of the top 250, 211,370 lives could be saved.[3]
