The UK has lost its measles elimination status after the disease continued to spread for more than a year. Outbreaks began in late 2023 and intensified in 2024, when 2,911 laboratory-confirmed cases were reported in England, the most since 2012. Britain's UKHSA said endemic transmission of the virus had resumed. This is the second such case in the last decade. In 2025, the number of cases in England fell to 957, but transmission continued throughout the year. Of all cases, 68% were in children aged 10 and under. In the period from April to June 2025, 96.4% of those infected had complete epidemiological data.
