The study highlights the long-term effectiveness of popular weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic, Mounjaro and Zepbound. These drugs lead to impressive weight loss, but rapid weight gain occurs after discontinuation. People gain weight faster after stopping these drugs than after dieting and exercising. Improvements in heart health and reductions in diabetes risk also tend to reverse within a few years. With drugs such as Ozempic, the return of weight after the end of treatment was the fastest, on average almost 0.8 kilograms per month. The results suggest that long-term success may require more than medication alone.
