The Public Health Office of the Slovak Republic announces the withdrawal of several infant formula products from the Slovak market after the detection of the toxin cereulide, produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus[1][2][3]. The toxin was confirmed by laboratory analyzes in Nestlé brand products from Germany, for example in values of 0.70 ± 0.22 μg/kg and 0.50 ± 0.16 μg/kg[1]. The recall concerns batches such as BEBA supreme PRE 800 g (L51460742F1), BEBA expert PRE 550 g (L51700742A1) and BEBA Frühgeborenen Nahrung (53020742C1), including the BEBA pre, expert, comfort and supreme ranges[3]. Another recall includes Bebelo Milk 1 and 2 products based on suspected contamination of the omega-6 raw material ARA[2][4][6]. Cereulide contamination can cause loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, malaise, and a more serious health impact is not excluded, especially in infants[1][2][3]. Customers can return the affected batches to the sellers in Slovakia where they purchased them, and ÚVZ does not recommend using them[1][2]. Regional public health authorities are verifying the withdrawal from the market[2]. Not all of the listed products were distributed on the Slovak market[1].
