Life expectancy in the US will reach an all-time high of 79 years in 2024, according to the CDC[1][2]. This growth is due to the dispersal of the COVID-19 pandemic and the decline in mortality from all major causes of death in the country. According to the 2023 data underlying this trend, life expectancy at birth was 78.4 years, an increase of 0.9 years from 77.5 years in 2022[1][2]. It rose from 74.8 to 75.8 years for men and from 80.2 to 81.1 years for women[1][2]. The gap between women and men fell to 5.3 years[1]. Age-adjusted mortality decreased by 6.0% from 798.8 to 750.5 deaths per 100,000 standardized population[1]. The infant mortality rate, at 560.2 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2023, was unchanged from 2022[1]. Life expectancy at age 65 reached 19.5 years, an increase of 0.6 years[1].
