The study evaluated the feasibility and effectiveness of a psychologically graded early warning and intervention system for inpatients in a general hospital. Psychological screening of 1757 patients was performed within 48 hours of hospitalization using the UPPSAQ, LES and PDRQ questionnaires, on the basis of which the levels were determined: referral (level 1), intervention (level 2) and report with psychiatric intervention (level 3). Of the 338 patients who completed the 3-month follow-up assessment, only 4 (1.2%) had normal scores, 199 (58.9%) grade 1, 125 (37.0%) grade 2, and 10 (3.0%) grade 3. Consultation rates were 7.5% grade 1, 19.2% grade 2, and 70% grade 3. The consultation intervention significantly improved overall UPPSAQ scores at grades 2 and 3 (t = −2.110, p = 0.037) and reduced HOPE-P scores, while changes in PDRQ and LES were not significant (p > 0.05). The system is feasible and the interventions improve patients' psychosomatic health. The study is registered under ChiCTR2300075262.
