ECDC, Africa CDC and the WHO Regional Office for Africa are conducting R programming and epidemic intelligence training for disease surveillance experts from the National Public Health Agency of Sierra Leone[query]. The aim is to strengthen surveillance and epidemiological reporting in the country[query]. The training is in partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone to improve emergency preparedness and health security[1]. These activities follow on from previous initiatives, such as piloting universal preparedness for health emergencies and joint external evaluation[1]. The mission identifies priorities and engages partners to create a common vision for strengthening health systems[1]. After the completion of the training, a two-year action plan will be created to improve preparedness for epidemics and response to emergency situations[1]. The partnership also includes staff training for rapid deployment within 72 hours if needed[1].
