The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced the first Strategic Plan for Disability Research, FY26-FY30.[1][7] The plan identifies scientific topics and sets goals to support research improving the health and well-being of people with disabilities.[1][3] Development is led by the Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives (DPCPSI) in collaboration with the NIH Disability Health Research Coordinating Committee.[1][2] NIH collected feedback through community roundtables and a town hall from October to December 2024.[2][3][4] These events included discussions with people with first-hand experience, researchers, clinicians and representatives of organizations.[3] In December 2024, they issued a request for information (RFI NOT-OD-25-038) for feedback on the draft framework plan, with a deadline of March 12, 2025.[4][5] The framework contains cross-cutting themes and four strategic objectives, including supporting innovative research to address gaps in knowledge about the health of people with disabilities.[4] The plan is intended to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in biomedical and behavioral research.[1][2]
