A new imaging technology called fast-RSOM allows researchers to visualize the smallest blood vessels in the human body without invasive procedures. This method can detect early dysfunction in these vessels, which is a warning sign of future heart disease, long before clinical symptoms appear. Unlike traditional cardiac risk estimation methods, fast-RSOM measures the actual pathological changes happening in the body. The technology is portable and in the future could be used in routine medical examinations to detect heart disease risks earlier. This innovation represents a shift from predicting risk to direct observation of changes in the vascular system.
