Countries have begun signing new bilateral agreements with the US on global health. Reproductive rights advocates warn that these agreements can harm the health of mothers and children. Andrew Green reports. The US administration is expanding an information embargo, known as the Global Gag Rule, that prohibits the provision of information about abortion and reproductive health. This rule applies to US-funded foreign NGOs. Organizations must choose between limiting health care for vulnerable groups or going out of business. The updated policy also includes US-based international organizations and NGOs. Human rights organizations have documented that this policy limits access to reproductive care, including safe abortion.
