Cancer is the leading cause of premature mortality in every region. The world health system is failing to answer basic questions about access to essential cancer drugs. Spending on oncology drugs will reach $223 billion in 2023. There is no global mechanism to monitor the availability of these drugs, their affordability or their proper use. This absence of routine metrics hinders planning and accountability. The absence of metrics has become a structural obstacle.
