The Universal Health Coverage (UHC) editorial argues that UHC is a necessary ethical obligation. However, UHC is not sufficient to ensure resilient health systems or sustainable population health. This shortage is most pronounced in sub-Saharan Africa. In this region, it reflects a deeper mismatch between UHC funding and the practical functioning of health systems.
