The study investigated whether the Naples Prognostic Score (NPS) can predict acute kidney injury in patients with sepsis. The researchers found that NPS was significantly higher in patients with sepsis-related kidney damage compared to those without. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that NPS is an independent predictor of this condition with high diagnostic accuracy (value under the ROC curve 0.855). NPS showed a positive association with markers of renal injury such as urea nitrogen, serum creatinine and cystatin C. The score was effective in predicting risk even in patients receiving vasopressors or continuous renal replacement therapy, with accuracies of 0.898 and 0.866, respectively. According to the results, the NPS represents a simple and practically applicable tool for the early identification of patients at high risk of renal damage in sepsis, which allows for a better adaptation of treatment.
