A retrospective study reviewed 37 cases of fetal limb-body wall complex (LBWC) diagnosed by prenatal ultrasound at Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Xuzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital from 2012–2023. Fetuses were classified into two types according to the presence (type I) or absence (type II) of craniofacial anomalies: 4 fetuses type I, 31 type II and 2 with signs of both types. All fetuses had thoracoschisis or gastroschisis with visceral hernia, 35 had limb abnormalities, 11 had craniofacial abnormalities, and all showed curvature of the spine. Other abnormalities included umbilical cord changes in 23 fetuses, persistent extraembryonic coelom in 12, amniotic band in 9, thickening of the nuchal translucency in 5, nuchal cystic hygroma in 3, invisible bladder in 1, and external infetal genu in 2. All cases resulted in induced abortion. LBWC has characteristic ultrasound features that allow diagnosis in the first trimester, with accurate examination essential for counseling parents about prognosis.
