FAO, UNEP, WHO and WOAH have renewed a quadrilateral memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in One Health until 28 November 2030[1][2][6]. Hereby, they confirm the joint commitment to promote the implementation of the One Health approach, which recognizes the interconnectedness of the health of people, animals, plants, ecosystems and the wider environment[1][2][3]. The renewed MoU provides a legal and operational framework for cooperation, leveraging the mandates and advantages of each organization[1][2]. It strengthens cooperation in key areas such as health systems strengthening, prevention and response to epidemics and pandemics, control of endemic and neglected diseases, antimicrobial resistance, food safety and integration of environmental aspects[1][2][5]. The cooperation is based on many years of successful cooperation and a multisectoral approach to current and emerging health challenges at the human-animal-environment interface[1][2]. It is guided by the principles of cooperation, shared responsibility, inclusivity, equality and gender equality[1][2]. Quadripartite organizations will support countries with evidence-based policies to reduce health risks and achieve sustainable outcomes for people, animals, plants and ecosystems[1][2].
