The study examined social support during standardized pediatric resident training at the Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University in southwest China. 223 residents from all three years participated in the survey, filling out anonymous questionnaires with demographic data and the Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS). A total of 76.23% (170/223) of the participants were satisfied with the level of social support. Women demonstrated significantly greater use of social support and a higher overall level of support than men (P < 0.05). Residents with a medical license reported significantly higher levels of support compared with those without a license (P < 0.05). Factors affecting social support were gender, employment, and medical license. The level of support is suboptimal, especially for male residents and those without professional qualifications. The authors recommend better standardized policies to increase the support and quality of training.
