A new photography exhibition brings female surgeons from different specialties, career stages and regions of the UK into the spotlight. Pictured is kidney transplant surgeon Anusha Edwards from North Bristol NHS Trust. All the women photographed are members of the Women in Surgery Network (WinS), which is dedicated to encouraging, enabling and inspiring women in surgical careers. The exhibition reveals the contrast between progress and persistent inequality in the surgical specialty. While more than half of doctors are now women, only 17% of UK surgical specialties are women. The portraits were taken by NHS trust staff, including photographers from the hospitals' medical photography departments.
