Israel has reportedly accepted a figure of at least 70,000 casualties in Gaza as of October 7, 2023, according to an anonymous Israeli security official. The Palestinian Ministry of Health reports more than 71,000 dead and more than 171,000 injured. Israeli officials have previously disputed the figures, calling them Hamas propaganda, although the UN considers them generally accurate. Experts warn that the true number of deaths is likely to be much higher. Since 2009, approximately 500 people have been killed, including more than 100 children, and 1,400 have been injured.
