Mount Sinai Health System received donations from Jeffrey Epstein after 2008, when Epstein accepted a controversial plea deal for solicitation of a minor.[1][2][3] According to tax filings, Epstein donated at least $15,000, including $10,000 to the Icahn School of Medicine and $5,000 to the Mount Sinai Breast Health Resource.[3] In 2013, cardiologist Jess Ting personally solicited $50,000 from Epstein for breast cancer research.[2] The health system announced that a portion of the donation will go to an anti-human trafficking and sexual exploitation charity, as well as its Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program for victims of sexual violence.[1][3][4] Mount Sinai did not disclose the exact amount of the donations or the identity of the recipient of the funds.[2][3] Epstein died by suicide in August 2019 while in prison awaiting trial for trafficking minors.[1][3] A recent lawsuit against the Department of Health and Mount Sinai was dismissed by a New York court.[5]
