Alexis "Lexie" Lawler, an obstetrics nurse at Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital in Florida, was fired after a viral TikTok video went viral[1][2][4]. In a video, she expressed her "great joy" in wishing hard fourth-degree fissure during White House birth to pregnant spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt[1][2][4]. A fourth-degree tear is the most serious type of birth injury, affecting the muscles and tissues up to the anal sphincter and can lead to long-term complications[1][4]. The hospital said her comments violated standards of compassionate and impartial patient care and she is no longer employed.[1][2][4] Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced that Lawler could no longer practice nursing, and the Florida Board of Nursing issued an emergency suspension of her license[2]. The public and health professionals are calling for her license to be revoked for her dangerous and biased behavior[1][2]. A GoFundMe campaign was started for Lawler with a goal of $14,000 for legal expenses, which he labels the firing as retaliation for political speech, and has so far raised $4,158.[3][6]
