Telehealth company Hims & Hers has announced the launch of a cheaper, off-brand version of the diet pill semaglutide (Wegovy).[1] It is a compressed form of semaglutide, which contains the same active ingredient as Ozempic and Wegovy.[1] The company offers compressed GLP-1 injections as a weekly prescription injection starting at $199 per month.[1] Novo Nordisk terminated cooperation with Hims & Hers due to concerns about illegal mass compression and false promotion of inauthentic versions of Wego.[3] The FDA has expressed concern about unapproved versions of GLP-1 drugs, such as compressed semaglutide, used for weight loss.[1][8] Until February of this year, compactors were allowed to produce doses due to semaglutide shortages, but the FDA then ended the emergency.[1] Hims & Hers plans to launch a generic version of liraglutide (Victoza) in 2025.[1]
