Generic drug prices are facing increasing price pressure in the US. The beginning of 2026 represents one of the first significant periods when the catalog prices of original medicines fall. Prescription drug prices in the US are, on average, almost three times higher than in other markets[3]. To date, 14 of the 17 largest pharmaceutical companies have agreed to drastically reduce drug prices for the US market[6]. Several drug manufacturers have pledged to reduce prices on the US market[3]. Donald Trump has announced plans to significantly reduce drug prices by up to 80 percent through the "Most Favored Nation" policy[1]. Some medicines should become cheaper in the US by up to 90 percent based on the signed regulation[5].
