Scientists in Australia have discovered a sugar that only exists on the surface of some of the most dangerous drug-resistant bacteria. This sugar is unique to bacterial cells. Researchers have designed antibodies that recognize this sugar. Antibodies direct the immune system to attack the bacteria. By doing so, they eliminate deadly infections that normally resist antibiotics. The method uses the body's natural defense against superbugs.
