Scientists have discovered a hitherto unknown enzyme that plays a key role in the formation of fat in the body. In animal studies, they successfully blocked this enzyme, stopping weight gain. At the same time, blocking the enzyme reduced liver damage and reduced the level of harmful cholesterol in the blood of the tested animals. This finding represents a potential basis for the development of a new type of drug. New drugs could simultaneously tackle three serious health problems – obesity, fatty liver and cardiovascular disease. Research opens up new possibilities in the treatment of metabolic disorders associated with excess weight and its consequences.
