At least 36 cases of children falling ill from tainted baby formula stocks have been reported in the UK. Experts advise doctors to be vigilant in other cases and help alert patients to the problem. The United Kingdom's Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) has reported that hundreds of children have fallen ill worldwide. On February 6, the UK's Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued a recall notice for several batches of Danone's Aptamil and Cow and Gate infant formula. The recall concerns the first infant formula and subsequent milk formula due to the possible risk of the presence of the toxin cereulide. The toxin cereulide is produced by a strain of the bacterium Bacillus cereus and has contaminated global infant formula supplies.
