An updated meta-analysis by Nelson Wang and colleagues confirms previous findings on high blood pressure treatment. Standard doses of blood pressure-lowering drugs from different classes lead to similar reductions in blood pressure. The effects of these drugs are additive regardless of their combination. The reduction in blood pressure is greater in patients with higher initial blood pressure. Adding drugs from different classes lowers blood pressure more than increasing the dose of a single drug. These principles simplify and improve heart attack and stroke prevention. There is agreement on these principles.
