The authors commend Lisa M. Force and colleagues for their systematic analysis of the Global Cancer Burden (GBD) 2023. The study predicts a disproportionate increase in cancer burden in low- and middle-income countries. It provides invaluable global estimates, but highlights gaps in geographic data important for policy planning. Cancer surveillance data from sub-Saharan Africa are severely lacking. Of the 47 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, 23 countries were not represented, which is 48.9%. The available data are often historical, such as the Namibian register from 1983–1992.
