Recent estimates from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2023 show Lebanon as the country with the largest increase in cancer mortality between 1990 and 2023. This study provides valuable insights into cancer trends at the global level. However, Lebanon-specific findings require careful interpretation. The reason is the lack of reliable data in the country. The estimates of the GBD study methods are therefore insufficiently reliable in such conditions. The article highlights the need to improve cancer surveillance and estimates of the global burden of cancer.
