A large study suggests that menopause is linked to changes in brain structure, mental health and sleep. Brain scans revealed gray matter loss in areas associated with memory and emotional regulation. Many women reported increased anxiety, depression and fatigue. Hormone therapy did not reverse these effects on gray matter. However, it can slow the age-related decline in reaction speed.
