Mucormycosis is a serious fungal infection in immunocompromised patients that has a high mortality rate. Amphotericin B colloidal dispersion is effective in its treatment of pulmonary mucormycosis. A 36-year-old diabetic woman with severe pulmonary mucormycosis developed skin damage on her left leg after 34 days of treatment through a peripheral vein due to drug extravasation. The medication was moved into a central vein and bedside nurses applied dressings with an alginate silver dressing and saline solution. The skin was completely healed on day 155 with minimal residual pigmentation. This case report describes the nursing management of severe skin damage in an immunocompromised patient. It represents an effective strategy for patients on long-term or high-dose amphotericin B therapy.
