RWD (real world data) is routinely collected data about the health status of patients and the health care provided. RWE (real world evidence) represents information obtained from the analysis of RWD, which serves to improve the quality of health care. RWD and RWE complement data from clinical trials by reevaluating the benefit-risk ratio of treatment. Once a drug is approved, RWE data allow learning more about different therapy settings and its effects on diverse populations in routine clinical practice. RWE can be used to verify whether the results of randomized controlled trials are also valid in everyday practice. RWDs provide more detailed and longer-term information than clinical trials and allow comparisons of treatment regimens that would not be possible in controlled trials. RWD and RWE are reshaping clinical trial design, making them smarter, faster and more efficient.[2][10]
