A study examined the effects of acupuncture and moxibustion on improving endometrial receptivity (the ability of the uterus to receive an embryo) in women undergoing IVF-ET treatment.[1] Researchers analyzed 214 scientific studies from January 2020 to June 2025 and found that acupuncture (including traditional manual, electroacupuncture, and TEAS) and moxibustion (wheat, herbal, and warm uterus) improved endometrial receptivity by regulating endometrial thickness, reduced blood flow, and endometrial quality.[1] Combined therapies, such as warm needling along with acupuncture, achieve even greater results.[1] The mechanisms of action of these methods include modulation of autophagy (AMPK/mTOR pathway), pinopod-related molecules (LIF, integrin αvβ3), non-coding RNAs (miR-449a, circRNAs) and promotion of new blood vessel formation by VEGF.[1] The authors conclude that acupuncture and moxibustion are promising, high-quality, and standardized adjunctive therapies for IVF-ET, but further confirmation of efficacy, standardization of protocols, and reduction of bias in future research are needed.[1]
