A six-week study from the University of Nottingham examined the effects of a combination of fermented kefir and prebiotic fiber on inflammation in healthy adults.[1] Kefir was made by traditional fermentation of goat's milk and contains probiotic bacteria and yeast.[1] This synbiotic combination outperformed both omega-3 supplements and fiber alone in reducing inflammatory markers.[1] The group consuming kefir with prebiotic fiber saw the most significant decrease in proteins associated with inflammation.[1] Lead study author Amrita Vijay said all approaches dampened inflammation, but the combination of kefir and prebiotic fiber had the strongest and broadest effect.[1] The combination feeds beneficial microbes that produce compounds like butyrate, improving immune balance and metabolic health.[1]
