The research team developed a microfluidic device called the FIND-Chip that automates and improves the process of retrieving oocytes (eggs) from follicular fluid during in vitro fertilization. The traditional oocyte retrieval procedure is done manually, which is time-consuming and may result in the loss of some eggs. The FIND-Chip device was tested in a clinical setting where it successfully identified and recovered additional oocytes that were initially missed during manual screening. The use of this automated system has greatly increased the number of viable oocytes available for fertilization. This innovation represents a potential improvement in the process of assisted reproduction by increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of obtaining the eggs required for in vitro fertilization.
