The White House is making staffing changes to top positions at the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to strengthen oversight of its operations ahead of the midterm elections[1][5][6]. The goal is to restructure the top team of Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and appoint four new chief advisers to manage day-to-day operations and communications[1][5]. Chris Klomp, the former head of Medicare and senior advisor to HHS, will become senior advisor and de facto chief of staff[1][7]. John Brooks, deputy administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), will serve as the chief advisor on CMS issues[1]. Two senior Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials, Grace Graham and Kyle Diamantas, will assume the roles of principal advisers on FDA affairs[1][2]. Current HHS Chief of Staff Matt Buckham will move to the position of Senior Advisor[1]. HHS confirmed the changes Thursday, saying they will help accelerate the department's priorities[1][7].
