The article titled "Quiz Time: Was Coffee Linked to Higher Dementia Risk?" is a quiz from MedPage Today testing knowledge about the connection between coffee and dementia.[1] A new study shows that regular drinking of 2 to 3 cups of caffeinated coffee daily reduces the risk of dementia by about 18% compared to those who hardly drink caffeine.[1][3][5] 1 to 2 cups of caffeinated tea a day has a similar effect.[1][5] Decaffeinated coffee did not show any protective effect.[1][3] Researchers looked for subjective memory problems, cognitive tests, and clinically confirmed dementia.[1] Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors, keeping neurons more active.[1] Older studies suggested a higher risk with a lot of coffee, but this study did not confirm that, and extreme amounts were not harmful.[1]
