The seminar on osteoporosis by Carrie Ye and colleagues provides important and updated information on the assessment and treatment of this condition in an aging society. Osteoporosis is a prevalent and suboptimally treated condition. The seminar does not address the increasing group of patients taking modern and effective incretin-based anti-obesity drugs or undergoing bariatric surgery. The relationships between iatrogenic weight loss and the risk of osteoporosis, which predisposes to fractures, are complex and antagonistic. It might be helpful to list the pros and cons of weight loss therapies for bone.
