The study compared the effectiveness of oral dutasteride 0.5 mg daily with oral minoxidil at doses of 1 mg, 2.5 mg and 5 mg daily in men with androgenetic alopecia over six months. 67 men participated, 46 completed follow-up with clinical staging and trichoscopic examination of the fronto-parietal, temporal and occipital regions at baseline, 3 and 6 months. The minoxidil groups showed an improvement in clinical severity scores, while the dutasteride group showed no statistically significant change. Trichoscopic changes were mild, with no significant increase in total hair density in all groups. Selective changes were observed, such as a higher proportion of thicker hair in the fronto-parietal region with dutasteride and an increased hair shaft diameter in the occipital region with low-dose minoxidil. Clinical improvements with minoxidil have not been fully confirmed trichoscopically. The study was non-randomized with a small sample and requires confirmation in larger randomized trials with longer follow-up.
