A major measles outbreak has been confirmed in north-east London, mostly affecting unvaccinated children, some of whom had to be admitted to hospital. From January 1 to February 9, 2026, there were 96 laboratory-confirmed cases of measles in England. Of these, 34 cases (35%) come from the London Borough of Enfield, which has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country. Only 64.3% of five-year-olds in Enfield received both doses of the MMR vaccine in 2024-25. The outbreak has led to calls for more childhood vaccinations and the launch of a new government campaign. This data was provided by UKHSA.
