Use of a best practice alert in the electronic health record (EHR) combined with physician education was associated with a higher likelihood of earlier human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination. This intervention improved both vaccination initiation and completion rates. The study was of retrospective quality. The intervention encouraged earlier HPV vaccines. Better outcomes were achieved for patients where physicians received educational components along with EHR alerts.
