This study examined how organizational caring climate, communication skills, and emotional intelligence influence humanistic caring ability in undergraduate nursing interns through a dual mediation analytic framework. As participants, 657 nursing trainees from five first-class hospitals in China were selected by convenience sampling. The humanistic care ability scales, the organizational care atmosphere scale, the communication ability scale and the emotional intelligence scale were used. All four variables were positively correlated (p < 0.01). The sequential indirect effect of caring climate on humanistic care through communication skills and emotional intelligence was 0.105 (95% CI 0.07–0.15). The overall indirect effect reached 0.348 (95% CI 0.27–0.42). The ability of humanistic nursing care of interns is influenced by the objective factor of atmosphere of care and the subjective factors of communication competence and emotional intelligence.
