Low-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) was more common in patients with autoimmune hyperthyroidism and thyroid eye disease (TED) compared to patients with autoimmune hyperthyroidism alone, according to a case-control study. The study compared these two groups of patients. Low-risk HPV was significantly more common in the TED group. This association suggests a possible influence of the virus on the development of TED in autoimmune hyperthyroidism. The study was published on MedPage Today.
