Bayer has agreed to a $7.25 billion settlement in thousands of Roundup lawsuits[1]. The plaintiffs claimed that the company failed to adequately warn of the cancer risks associated with the use of this glyphosate-based herbicide[1]. The settlement is expected to cover approximately 75 percent of ongoing litigation[1]. 125 thousand American consumers filed or were preparing a lawsuit in this matter[1]. Bayer bought the manufacturer of Roundup, the American company Monsanto, in 2018 for more than sixty billion dollars[1]. The company planned to begin paying the plaintiffs the year the settlement was announced, funding it from existing liquidity, future earnings, the sale of its veterinary medicine division and a bond issue[1]. The settlement had to be approved by Judge Vince Chhabria of the District Court of Northern California[1].
