Scientists have discovered a hidden 'switch' for inflammation in the body through a new human study. Fat-derived molecules called epoxy-oxylipins restrict immune cells that can lead to chronic disease. The body naturally uses these molecules to turn off inflammation. The use of the epoxy-oxylipin-enhancing drug reduced the pain more quickly. This intervention also reduced harmful inflammatory cells. The discovery could pave the way for safer treatments for arthritis, heart disease and other inflammation-related conditions.
