The FDA has appointed Jeremy Walsh as its chief AI officer to lead its AI efforts.[1][2] Walsh previously served for 14 years as chief technologist at consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton, where he focused on healthcare AI.[1][2] His role will be to work with engineers, scientists and analysts to improve healthcare services using AI and cloud computing.[1] The FDA is launching a generative AI platform across all of its centers to speed up scientific reviews and reduce repetitive tasks.[1][2] Commissioner Martin Makary stated that the generative AI pilot project was successful, allowing scientific assessment tasks to be completed in minutes instead of three days.[1][2] All FDA centers are to integrate this AI system with internal data platforms by June 30.[1][2] The rollout is being coordinated by Walsh and Sridhar Mantha of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.[1] More details about the initiative will be released by the FDA in June.[1]
