With federal research funding uncertain, a handful of US states are considering new initiatives to increase support for science.[1] States are debating their own science programs amid growing uncertainty over federal dollars. These efforts are in response to possible cuts in research spending, such as on climate and mRNA vaccines, under the Trump administration.[5][8] In contrast, Slovakia plans to significantly increase the budget for science and research in 2026 to 863 million euros, including 147 million euros for SAS.[4] The European Union will allocate 500 million euros for scientific research in the years 2025–2027.[3] MISTI global seed funds offer grants of up to 30,000 euros for cooperation between MIT and Slovak institutions.[1] In 2024, 194 subsidies for education, science and research in the amount of 881,514 euros were approved in Slovakia.[6]
