The EAT–Lancet Commission, led by Johan Rockström, has made a significant contribution to the health of the planet by linking dietary changes to human health and planetary boundaries. The authors praise her efforts to place food at the center of global discussions. Food systems cross five of the planet's nine borders and account for approximately 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Switching to a Planetary Healthy Diet could prevent around 15 million deaths per year, which is 27% of global deaths. Less than 1% of the world's population lives in a safe space where food needs are met within the boundaries of the planet. The richest 30% of people cause more than 70% of food-related environmental impacts. An updated diet allows for flexibility and reduces the risks of non-communicable diseases. Transforming food systems could cut emissions by more than half.
