An extensive scientific review suggests that pecans improve cholesterol levels and support heart health.[1][3] A study with 138 participants tested the daily consumption of approximately 57 g of pecans (¼ cup) in place of regular snacks for 12 weeks.[1][2][3] Results showed a drop in total cholesterol by more than 8 points, LDL cholesterol by more than 7 points, non-HDL cholesterol by about 9.5 points, and triglycerides by about 16 points.[1][2] Eating pecans improved diet quality by approximately 9 points, up to 17% higher quality than the control group.[3] Pecans contain approximately 70% monounsaturated fats, which lower LDL cholesterol and promote vascular elasticity.[1][2] They are a source of fiber, protein, B and E vitamins and minerals such as manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, calcium and iron.[1][2]
