The new US Dietary Guidelines for 2025–2030 do not differ significantly from previous versions, recommending limits on added sugars and sodium.[1] They emphasize the priority of high-quality, nutrient-dense proteins at every meal, including meat, poultry, fish, eggs, nuts, and seeds.[1][2] They recommend eating fruits and vegetables throughout the day, whole grains instead of refined grains, and healthy fats from olive oil or avocado.[1][2] Saturated fat should be limited to less than 10% of daily energy intake, sodium to less than 2,300 mg per day, and added sugars to less than 10% of daily energy intake.[1][2] They severely limit highly processed foods, sweets, salty snacks and drinks with added sugar.[1][2][4] The guidelines also include recommendations for different periods of life, such as exclusive breastfeeding for six months and continuation up to two years.[5]
